In this talk I will explore some theoretical and methodological implications of the multivariate nature of personality. First, I will show how a multivariate perspective on sex differences in personality challenges certain widespread ideas on this topic, and suggests novel connections with evolutionary models of sexual selection and life history variation. Then, I will consider the geometry of personality profiles and discuss its intriguing but counterintuitive implications for the description, perception, and functional organization of individual differences.
